Art Classes will be organized and taught through the Moab Arts Department; positions are part-time and class-based.

We are currently hiring instructors to teach between the months of January-June 2023. Proposed classes and workshops can be for any age and any skill level, beginner through expert. Classes specifically for kids, teens, and seniors are desired. Classes can range from single-session weeknight offerings to multi-week intensives. Seasoned and new instructors are welcome to reach out with their ideas.

General Purpose

Teachers will perform a variety of duties associated with giving instruction for continuing education classes in accordance with Moab Arts & Recreation Center's mission, policies, and goals.

Reporting Relationships

Supervision Received: Instructors work under the general supervision of the Arts Director.

Supervision Exercised: N/A

Essential Functions

  • Supervises all activities, students, volunteers, and equipment associated with the instruction given during a class/event session.
  • Instructs class/event participants on the rules, regulations and policies of the Center.
  • Supplies Center Manager with class/event description, materials needed, age-range of students, hours per class, number of classes, names of participants and other related information as required.
  • Is responsible for the set-up and clean up for each class/event session.
  • Is responsible for the safety and security of participants.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Experience and/or education in the area to be taught
  • Previous teaching experience is desirable.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Simple administrative skills, including verifying students/participants are registered.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement; ability to communicate effectively orally; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students/participants, the public and Center volunteers.
  • Ability to adhere to schedule for class/events.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The Instructor normally works in a safe, climate-controlled environment. Tasks may entail muscular strain, including walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting. Talking, hearing, and seeing are essential to performing job requirements. Common eye, hand and finger dexterity are required for most essential functions.

Formal application, current resume, and interview with Arts Director. A sample of past work or syllabus may be requested, if applicable. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen test. Subject to background and criminal investigation.
